| We have waited for a long time to start this important platform. As we all know, there are so many talented artistes in Africa and all over the world springing up every day. These are people who believe in themselves and want to make a career in the industry the love and cherish so much with great passion. On the other hand, there are very few established record companies out there. They can only accommodate a given number of artistes at a time, according to their yearly operational schedule. The question is, what then happens to the rest of the artistes? These are people who have been investing money, time and energy trying to make their dreams come true. They keep waiting and praying everyday for an opportunity to showcase their talent and then make an honest living from it, but many usually end up with hopes dashed, and no where to turn. We have therefore joined the growing list of new independent labels, who come in as an alternative source of hope for these artistes to keep their dreams alive. The music industry is a very difficult one, but through results-oriented hard work, patience, a positive attitude and putting the buying public first, the road to success is assured. | Our approach to music is simple. Do you have a musical idea, chorus, verse, melody, harmony, lyrics, drum beats (which ever one comes to you first) etc? If you do, arrange it, record it and put it on to a CD, DVD, what ever format you can afford. The softwares are available and affordable, now more than ever. However, if you have a lot of money and can afford to assemble the best musicians in any country, have as many studio recording sessions as possible to produce a great album, by all means do. But doing this does not guarantee that your album will be a No.1 hit when it gets into the market. There have been stories about album projects done with big budgets and they never got to be successful. The kind of stories the record companies, whether big or small don't want to hear. Then again, not too long ago a previously unknown artiste submitted a demo CD, recorded with basic musical instruments to the A&R department of a recording company in U.S.A. They listened to it and decided to put it out into the market exactly the way it was when it was brought to them, without making any changes to it. A year after the release, that CD ended up winning four Grammy Awards. What a surprse, you might say!! It therefore boils down to one fact. That there is no formula to making a hit song. You only need to do the best you can within your capabilities. Try and KEEP IT SIMPLE. If it makes sense to the buying public, you have done your part. People will go for it. We encourage artistes not to be afraid of the sometimes complicated nature of the recording process, depending on which method you follow. We now have the softwares and they make the process simpler than it used to be. If you can sing, and the only musical instrument you have is an accoustic guitar, by all means, play, sing, record it and put it on to a CD. If it appeals to somebody, somewhere out there, they will buy it. It can be as simple as that. The internet finally came as a gift from God to the up and coming artistes, musicians, producers and independent label owners who operate on low, or no budgets. The years of waiting for an opportunity for air play on Tv and Radio as the only major source of promo are now over, as there are several websites that make it possible for artistes to uplaod their music videos and establish wide web presence for free. A better and easier way out for artistes' promo. We thank God for the internet!! |
